I build ScoutPlatform, a family of free tools for finding places, books and music. Some use open geographic data to answer practical questions, such as where to find a dog-friendly beach, a free parking spot or a charger on a long drive. BookScout and MusicScout explore culture through books, charts, stories and links to original sources.
BeachScout began with the idea of building a worldwide map useful to the naturist community, while also serving anyone looking for beaches and swimming places around the world. I then applied the same spirit of clear, accessible discovery to travel, books and music.
Everything here is built and maintained by one person. The project is independent, community-oriented, and built with the goal of remaining free or inexpensive to use.
MountainScout and HeritageScout are also planned.
The map-based tools use OpenStreetMap data, contributed by volunteers and used under the ODbL licence. The book and music projects use credited charts and other source links. The tools aim to be usable without an account or subscription.
